Renovation contractor

Filed under: home, renovation — admin @ 8:50 am

Like purchasing a house, renovating a house is expensive , so it is important to select the right contractor. Since the house owner will shift to temporary rental accommodation for the time taken for the renovation, any delay in completing the work can be expensive. The lowest price may be expensive in the long run as the work may be of poor quality.

It is advisable to talk to a few contractors and get quotations from them , before finalizing the order. The track record of the contractor should be checked and quality of work done earlier should be examined. Only a contractor with a history of completing contracts on time should be selected. It is advisable to include a penalty clause, which specifies the amount which will be deducted from payments to the contractor if the renovation takes much longer than scheduled, without a valid reason.

A professional renovator who has been in business for a long time, will usually offer some kind of warranty for the work done. In case minor rework is required, it will be done at no additional cost. They have a written contract, which specifies what the scope of the work is and the costs. They have the necessary insurance policies and workman’s compensation.
